DC-based singer performs classic Bezunesh Bekele on Great Day Washington and presents upcoming live performance in DC, featuring Selamino Woldemariam of ROHA and IBEX band.

GRAMMY-nominated Ethiopian-American artist Wayna performed a Bezunesh Bekele classic, “Mignoten ManYawkal” on American WUSA Channel 9 News and prepares for a concert of original music and a tribute to Wzo Bezunesh at Bethesda Blues and Jazz in Washington, DC, Friday June 9th, 2017 at 8:00pm.

“Along with Motown, Ethiopia has a rich history of soul music,” says Wayna, “one that reflects the culture and language I grew up with. Wzo Bezunesh inspires me with her sound, her bravery, and her glamour, and I want to celebrate that timeless legacy.

After completing a 2-month US Tour singing with American soul and Motown icon, STEVIE WONDER, Wayna traveled to Ethiopia to perform weekly at the Marriott Apartments in Addis Ababa, beginning on New Year’s Eve 2016. It was while there for 2 months that she studied the music and style of Ethiopian soul superstar, Bezunesh Bekele, known as “the Aretha Franklin of Ethiopia.”
