Axum Obelisk To Be Renewed


The 24m long obelisk, best known for “The three obelisks” is to be renewed with 2million Euros as stated on an agreement that took place in Axum yesterday.

Ato Yonas Desta, Director General of Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage (ARCCH) ,stated that the shock resistance installed needs to be renewed as it was damaged through time and due to change in weather.

MH engineering, a local company along Studio Krochi, the Italian consulting company that has previously worked on the return of the obelisk, will be taking over the contract.

Axum obelisk is over 1700 years of age weighing about 160 tons and is registered under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1980 EC.
