World-Famous Ethiopian Astrophysicist Dr. Legesse Wetro Has Passed Away


What do you know about Dr. Legesse Wetro ?
-He was born in Arsi Negele province at a place called Arsi Sire.
-He was known as a doctor of astrophysics, the founder of Ethiopian Space Science Society, a founding member of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, African Astronomical Society, African and Ethiopian Physical Societies. He is also a leading scientist in theoretical pulsar astrophysics.
-Dr. Legesse was also a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU)-Commissions 40 A – B – C and Ethiopia’s Liaison at IAU. To everyone’s surprise, he solved the 460 years world problem of geomagnetic field reversals. Following his outstanding research in pulsar astrophysics, he got “Man of the Year” award from the American Biographical Institute (ABI) in 2011.
-Dr. Legesse was the editorial board member of AFRICAN SKIES as well, the only Astronomy Journal in AFRICA.

According to Addis Standard, Dr. Legesse’s body was found by his daughter when she came home after dropping her kid to school. He had heart-related illness.
