AIMS honors Haile Gebrselassie with Lifetime Achievement Award


The association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) presented Haile Gebreselassie with the life time achievement award at the AIMS best marathon runner awards dinner reception held 11th November, 2016 in Athens.

“What an honor to receive the AIMS Lifetime Achievement Award in Athens tonight, thank you!” Haile tweeted after the award. Gebreselassie was pleased to receive the award and has previously earned the AIMS world Athlete of the year Award in three consecutive years 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Haile Gebrselassie has announced his retirement from competitive running after finishing 16th in the Great Manchester Run on May 10, 2015. It brings to an end a 25-year career in which he claimed two Olympic gold medals, eight World Championship victories and set 27 world records.

After an inspiring career Haile has had, he is expected to do an excellent job as a newly appointed president of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation.
