Ethiopia Planning Africa’s Largest Airport

The Ethiopian government is planning to spend US$4 billion building the largest airport in Africa.

The airport in Addis Ababa would be larger than London’s Heathrow and serve as many as 120 million passengers a year.

Planners say it will open within the next 10 years, but risk analysis company PGI Intelligence claims the project could be delayed by difficulties in securing finance.

This massive airport is just the latest of Ethiopia’s many ambitious infrastructure projects.

The most expensive is the $4.8 billion Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when complete.
