Addis Light Rail Too Early To Face Problem


Addis Ababa light electric rail way which has gone operational less than a year ago with the aim of curbing Addis Ababa growing transportation problem is facing multiple problems .Problems related to spare part has resulted in the operation of only 28 trams out of the 41 trams.

The Railway Corporation failure in signing a binding contract with the Chinese company for supplying spare part is now causing headache for the corporation.

The project that coasted more than 500 million dollar and the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa now faces a major hurdle in sustaining its operation. According to Sheger FM report there were incidents in which the trains derail due to unsuitable topography as a result the corporation is engaging in labeling and adjusting the railways.
