Yellow Movement Roses Makes Your Valentine’s Day More Exciting While Empowering Women
The Yellow Movement a student led initiative at the Addis Ababa University was launched in 2011 with the aim of working on Gender Equality and the elimination of Gender Based Violence. Since their launch they have been using weekly, bi-annual and annual activism events to engage and challenge the community at Addis Ababa University, Main campus.
The Yellow Movement upcoming program is Valentine’s Day fundraiser program which is targeting to raise reliable fund to assist 100 students covering their needs and expenses in college.
In addition to raising awareness among the University community, they began using the Valentine’s Day event as a means to assist economically strained students at the University. especially, female students who cannot afford the most basic necessities such as Sanitary Pads, Soap etc.
During the Valentine’s Day TYM will be selling and delivering Roses, donated from various flower farms and donate the collected funds to the Gender Office of the University to administer for the students in need.
In their previous campaign the group raised the following amount,
2013: 4000 ETB
2014: 42,000 ETB and
2015: 107, 400 ETB
This year Yellow Movement have set an even more ambitious goal to double the amount raised last year and assist more than 100 students at Addis Ababa University.The event will take place from February 13-Feburary 14.
