The statue of Abune Petros, which was removed from Menelik II square due to the construction of the Addis Ababa light rail project, is to be reinstated next Sunday.
It will be returned to its original place following the completion of the construction of the square where the statue will rest, Worku Mengesha, Business Process Owner at the Addis Ababa Communication Bureau told FBC today.
The statue will be reinstated in the presence of religious fathers, government officials and various members of the society.
The statue of Abune Petros was removed from its original place to the National Museum in April, 2005 EC due to the construction of the Addis Ababa light rail project.
A committee drawn from Addis Ababa City Culture and Tourism Bureau, the Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage and the Addis Ababa City Roads Authority have been scrutinizing the return of the statue.
