The new Ethiopian interim coach Gebremedhin Haile has selected 28 national team players for the last round of the Afcon 2017 qualifiers against Seychelles in September.
The country’s football governing body, the Ethiopian Football Federation, (EFF), has appointed Gebremedhin replacing the former national coach Yohanes Sahile after his side faced a devastating 7-1 defeat at the hands of Algeria.
After taking over responsibility Gebremedhin amended the team’s hope of going in to the 2017 African Cup of Nations finals as a good runners-up.
The team headed to camp on Monday at Hawassa International Stadium in Hawassa City, the new venue for the match that was previously scheduled for Addis Ababa Stadium.
The squad is largely home-based with just two foreign based players; striker Getaneh Kebede of Bidvest Wits, South Africa and midfielder Shimeles Bekele of Petrojet, Egypt.
Ethiopia Walia Ibex are placed second in Group “J” with eight points still have a slim chance of making it to Gabon as one of best second-placed teams – making the Seychelles tie a must win and hence the need for early and proper preparations.
