Addis Ababa, January 29, 2016 (FBC) – The Executive Council of the African Union (AU) has endorsed Ethiopia’s candidature for a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) today.
The election of Ethiopia for a non-permanent member of the UNSC would further be endorsed at the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Governments of the Union.
Ethiopia is running for non-permanent seat of the UNSC for years 2017-2018.
In a related development, the Executive Council approved the candidature of Dr Tedros Adhanom, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, for World Health Organization (WHO) Director General post.
The election of WHO Director-General will be held in 2017.
